A COMMON CLINICAL PICTURE
A woman in her late 40s is dealing with heavier, less predictable periods, disrupted sleep, brain fog and lower energy. Her digestion also isn't what it used to be, and despite feeling that something has changed, her recent blood work was described as normal.
She knows something isn't right — she just wants to understand what's going on and what to do about it.
01 DETAILED ASSESSMENT
Her symptoms, medical history, medications, nutrition, sleep, activity, digestive health and previous investigations are reviewed together. Additional testing is considered where it may add useful clinical information.
02 CLINICAL PICTURE
Further assessment reveals that her blood sugar markers have been gradually rising, raising concern for early insulin resistance. Her iron stores are low even though she isn't anemic, and additional thyroid testing identifies previously undiagnosed thyroid autoimmunity.
03 INDIVIDUALIZED MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
Her plan may include menopausal hormone therapy when appropriate, correction of iron insufficiency, thyroid treatment or monitoring based on her thyroid function, and a sustainable nutrition and strength strategy to improve insulin sensitivity and support weight and body-composition goals. Digestive symptoms and any other ongoing concerns are addressed according to what the assessment identifies.
The result is a clearer understanding of what is changing, what needs attention, and what to prioritize first.
Illustrative example only. Assessment, testing and treatment vary according to individual clinical needs.
THE BIGGER PICTURE OF
Midlife Health
Midlife is about more than managing symptoms. These interconnected areas of health all play a role in how you feel now and in the years ahead.

Hormonal & Genitourinary Health
Perimenopause and menopause symptoms, menstrual changes, thyroid considerations, sexual health, vaginal and urinary concerns, and hormone therapy when appropriate.

Digestive &
Nutritional Health
Reflux, IBS and other digestive concerns, nutrition and nutrient status.

Metabolic & Cardiovascular Health
Blood sugar and insulin resistance, cholesterol, blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, weight and body composition.
Bone & Musculoskeletal Health
Bone density and osteoporosis risk, muscle mass and strength, protein and nutrient needs, exercise and physical function.

Sleep, Mood & Cognitive Health
Sleep disruption, mood and stress, brain fog, concentration, memory and energy.
Not every area needs attention for every woman. The goal is to understand which pieces of the midlife health picture are most relevant for you — and create a plan that supports your unique needs and goals.

MEET DR. LAURA STIX, ND
Blending Science, Care & Curiosity
I’ve always been fascinated by how the body and mind work, and that curiosity has shaped the way I practise. Before becoming a Naturopathic Doctor, I completed an Honours BSc in Psychology and Biology at the University of Waterloo, where I graduated magna cum laude and was awarded an NSERC research grant for honours research in visual cognition.
Over more than 15 years in clinical practice, I’ve found myself especially drawn to complex or unusual cases — particularly when someone has already been through the usual appointments and investigations, been told that everything looks normal or there is little more to do, yet still knows something isn’t right. I genuinely enjoy the detective work of stepping back, looking closely at the full clinical picture, and trying to understand what has not yet been clearly explained.
Over time, that same curiosity naturally drew me toward women’s midlife health. It is a stage where hormonal changes intersect with so many other aspects of health, and as a midlife woman navigating perimenopause myself, this work has become personal as well as professional.
